What happens if a heating fault is ignored

Low pressure becomes a leak

A system that needs topping up monthly has a leak somewhere — usually a slow weep on a rad valve or a failing expansion vessel. Left alone, it floods a ceiling.

Cold-at-the-bottom rads kill heat exchangers

Magnetite sludge sitting in the bottom of radiators is being pumped through the boiler heat exchanger every cycle. Within 12–18 months the heat exchanger blocks — typically an expensive part.

Kettling noises mean limescale

That rumbling, kettle-boiling noise from the boiler is limescale on the heat exchanger. Past a certain point the unit needs replacing.

Pilot light yellow, not blue

A yellow flame on older boilers means incomplete combustion — and carbon monoxide. Stop using it and call a Gas Safe engineer straight away.

Missed annual service voids warranty

Ideal, Baxi and Worcester all require an annual service to honour the 10-year warranty. Skip one year and an expensive PCB failure becomes your problem, not theirs.

Condensate freezing in cold snaps

Externally routed condensate pipes freeze in January, the boiler locks out, the house goes cold and the call-out queue is three days long. Re-routing internally is a 90-minute job in summer.

Heating systems are made of more than just the boiler. Most of the faults we attend are in the system around it.

Boiler repairs

Ideal, Baxi, Worcester, Glow-worm, Potterton, Main, Alpha, Viessmann. Most common: PCB, fan, ignition lead, gas valve, diverter valve cartridge, auto air vent, PRV.

Pump & valve replacements

Grundfos, Wilo and DAB circulation pumps swapped same-visit. Motorised 2-port and 3-port mid-position valves (Honeywell V4073, Drayton ZV) — full body or actuator-only depending on the failure mode.

Power-flushing & chemical flushing

Magnetite-clogged systems flushed to MagnaClean standard. Includes Sentinel X400 / X100 inhibitor charge and benchmark recorded. We fit a system filter on every flush we do.

Radiator balancing & rebuilds

Cold-at-the-bottom rads cleared, cold-at-the-top rads bled and pressurised, TRVs renewed, lock-shields balanced across the system so the furthest rad warms at the same rate as the nearest one.

Controls upgrades

Old mechanical timers swapped for Hive, Nest, Tado or Drayton Wiser. Zoned heating set up with motorised valves and individual room stats for larger Hull and Grimsby properties.

How quickly can you attend a heating breakdown?

How much is a heating repair?

Diagnosis is a flat fee — typically a small flat fee. The repair itself is then quoted in writing before we start. Most common repairs (pump, PRV, expansion vessel, motorised valve) sit.

How much is a boiler service?

Standard combi services are quoted as a fixed price before we book the visit.

My boiler keeps losing pressure — is that serious?

Yes. A system that won't hold pressure has either an internal leak (typically the expansion vessel or PRV) or an external one (rad valve, towel rail, hidden pipe under a floor). Topping it up weekly just masks the problem and corrodes the system from inside.

Do you carry parts in the van?

Yes — the common consumables and pumps, motorised valves, expansion vessels, PRVs, ignition leads, thermistors and TRVs. Specific PCBs and gas valves we will order in next-day from our local trade counter.

Can you service a boiler installed by someone else?

Absolutely. We service every brand, regardless of who fitted it. We'll also flag anything non-compliant we find — without using it as a sales pitch.

Do you guarantee your repairs?

12-month workmanship guarantee on every repair, in writing on the invoice. If the same fault returns inside 12 months, the return visit is free.

What if my boiler is beyond economical repair?
