Service overview

What counts as urgent — and what we can do about it today

An urgent plumbing problem is one where waiting causes damage or leaves a household without heat, water or safe gas. We are a small family-run firm working Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, so we do not pretend to be a 24-hour call centre. What we do instead is hold weekday capacity back for real urgencies, answer the phone ourselves, and give you a straight answer about timing rather than a booking that quietly slips two days.

What it is

Same-working-day attendance where a slot allows: burst and weeping pipes, isolating and repairing leaks, boiler lockouts and no-heat faults, no hot water, failed pumps and valves, overflowing cisterns, seized stop taps, leaking cylinders and radiator failures. Gas appliances are made safe first, then diagnosed and quoted.

Who it's for

Homeowners, landlords, letting agents and small business premises across Scunthorpe, Brigg, Messingham, Scotter, Kirton Lindsey, Barton-upon-Humber, Hull, Grimsby and Doncaster who need a real engineer on site rather than a call handler taking a deposit.

When it's needed

The moment water is escaping, the moment you smell gas (call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first), or the moment a vulnerable household is left without heating or hot water. Earlier in the day you call, the better the chance of a same-day slot.

Why a professional matters

Escaping water is the most common domestic insurance claim in the UK, and the cost of it scales with the hours it runs. A one-hour containment visit is almost always cheaper than a fortnight of drying, replastering and redecorating.

What goes wrong

The urgent jobs we get called to most

After eighteen years on the tools across North Lincolnshire, the pattern is fairly consistent — and most of it is containable within an hour of arriving.

Burst or split pipework

Usually a cold snap, an unlagged run in a loft or garage, or an old compression joint finally letting go. We isolate, cut back to sound pipe, replace the section and pressure test before we leave.

Water through a ceiling

Almost always a bathroom above — failed waste seal, a leaking trap, a shower tray perimeter or a pinhole in a hidden feed. We trace it properly rather than cutting a hole and hoping.

Boiler locked out, no heat

Ignition lockouts, low pressure, frozen condensate and failed diverter valves. Diagnosed on the visit, quoted in writing, and repaired then and there where the part is on the van.

No hot water at all

Diverter valve, thermistor, cylinder coil, immersion or a failed motorised valve. Testing tells us which — guessing costs you a part you did not need.

Seized or missing stop tap

You cannot deal with any leak if you cannot turn the water off. We replace seized internal stop taps and fit a lever valve so the next problem is a two-second job.

Leaking radiator or valve

Sheared valve spindles, corroded radiator seams and weeping unions. Contained, drained, replaced and the system re-pressurised and rebalanced.

Our process

How an urgent call-out actually runs

Same order every time, because containment before diagnosis is what limits the damage.

  1. 01

    Phone Triage

You speak to an engineer, not a script. We tell you how to isolate the water or gas immediately and give you a realistic arrival window.

  2. 02

    Make Safe

First job on arrival is stopping the damage — isolate, drain down, cap off, or safely shut down and label the gas appliance.

  3. 03

    Diagnose Properly

Once it is safe, we find the actual cause. Pressure tests, component testing and flue gas analysis where relevant — not a guessed part swap.

  4. 04

    Written Price Before Work

You get the repair cost in writing before anything else happens. No open-ended hourly meters running while you wait.

  5. 05

    Repair & Test

Repair completed where parts allow, system re-pressurised, re-tested and run under load to prove the fault has gone.

  6. 06

    Guarantee & Follow-Up

12-month workmanship guarantee in writing, plus a note of anything else we spotted that needs planning for — with no pressure to book it.

Benefits

Why people call us rather than a national line

You speak to the engineer

The person on the phone is the person who turns up. Nothing gets lost between a call centre and a subcontractor.

Honest timing

If we cannot get to you today we say so immediately, so you can call someone else rather than lose an afternoon waiting.

Containment first

We stop the water before we start the paperwork. Limiting the damage is the whole point of an urgent visit.

No surprise invoices

Fixed, written pricing before the repair starts. No hourly meter, no premium 'emergency' multiplier bolted on at the end.

Gas Safe registered

Registration 556262. Any gas appliance is made safe, tested and certified properly — never patched to get through the day.

Local, not national

Based in Winteringham and working across North Lincolnshire and the Humber daily. Short travel times mean earlier arrivals.

In detail

What to do before we arrive

The first ten minutes matter more than anything we do afterwards. Here is what actually helps.

If you smell gas

Do not touch electrical switches. Open doors and windows, turn the gas off at the meter control valve if you can reach it safely, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. That line is free and staffed 24 hours. Call us afterwards for the repair and recertification.

If water is escaping

Turn the internal stop tap off — usually under the kitchen sink, in a downstairs cloakroom or near where the main enters the property. Then open the cold taps to drain the pipework down. If the leak is on the heating side rather than the mains, close the flow and return valves on the offending radiator instead.

If water is near electrics

Switch the affected circuit off at the consumer unit and do not touch wet fittings. Water tracking into a ceiling rose or downlight is an electrical hazard as well as a plumbing one, and we will tell you honestly if an electrician needs to attend alongside us.

If the boiler has locked out

Check the pressure gauge. Below roughly 1 bar cold and the boiler will refuse to fire — but a system that keeps dropping has a leak or a failed expansion vessel, so repeatedly topping it up hides the fault rather than fixing it. One reset attempt is sensible; repeated resets are not.

In a freeze

A frozen condensate pipe is the single most common January call-out in North Lincolnshire. A jug of warm — not boiling — water poured along the external white pipe often restores it in minutes. If it refreezes, the pipe needs rerouting or upsizing, which we can quote for properly.

Insurance and evidence

Photograph the damage before anything is moved or dried, and keep our written report and invoice. Most escape-of-water claims are settled on exactly that evidence, and we will write the report in the detail insurers ask for.

Frequently asked

Straight answers,
in plain English.

Can't see your question? Ring Azim directly on 07576 593045.

Are you available 24 hours?

No. We are a small family-run firm and we work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. We hold weekday slots for urgent work, so the earlier in the day you call, the better the chance of same-day attendance.

How quickly can you get to me?

Where a slot is free we aim for the same working day across Scunthorpe, Brigg, Messingham, Scotter, Kirton Lindsey and Barton-upon-Humber, and usually the same or next working day for Hull, Grimsby and Doncaster. We tell you honestly on the phone.

What does an urgent visit cost?

Fault-finding and diagnostic visits are charged at our standard fixed rate, confirmed with you on the phone before we set off. Any repair is quoted in writing before it starts. We do not add an emergency premium.

I can smell gas — should I call you first?

No. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately, ventilate, and leave the property. Call us afterwards to diagnose, repair and recertify the appliance or pipework.

Can you repair it on the first visit?

Usually. Pumps, valves, sensors, ignition leads, expansion vessels and common fittings live on the van. Where a specific part has to be ordered we leave the system safe and return as soon as it lands.

Do you cover rented properties?

Yes — we work for landlords and letting agents across North Lincolnshire and can invoice the agent directly, with the tenant kept informed about access and timing.

Do you work on oil-fired systems?

No. We cover gas appliances only and do not carry out oil-fired (OFTEC) work.

Is the repair guaranteed?

Yes — 12-month workmanship guarantee in writing on every repair we carry out. If the same fault returns inside that period, the return visit is free.
