Service overview

A proper system design — not a parts list

A full central heating install isn't a bigger boiler swap — it's a system design. Pipe sizes, flow rates, radiator outputs, control zoning and balancing all have to work together, or you end up with cold rooms and a high gas bill in a brand-new system.

What it is

Complete new central heating: new boiler (combi, system or regular), new radiators sized to room heat-loss, new pipework (copper or MLCP), modern controls (Hive / Nest / Worcester), system filter, scale reducer and inhibitor charge. Plus full commissioning and Building Notification.

Who it's for

Homeowners in Scunthorpe, Brigg, Hull, Grimsby and the wider Humber region who are extending, refurbishing, switching from electric or storage heating, or simply replacing a tired old system that's never quite worked right.

When it's needed

Major renovation; loft conversion or extension that needs new circuits; conversion from storage heaters to wet central heating; old system that's repeatedly failing and isn't worth patching; or moving from a back-boiler / regular system to a modern combi or unvented setup.

Why a professional matters

The difference between an install that runs at 95% efficiency and one running at 75% is design. Heat-loss-calculated rads, correctly sized pipes, zoned controls and a balanced flow rate save 20%+ off the gas bill — every year, forever.

What goes wrong

Why most 'new' central heating systems still underperform

We're often the second installer in. The first one fitted a new boiler onto old pipework and called it a new system. Here's what we find:

Undersized 15mm runs

8kW rads being fed off 15mm pipe — physically can't deliver the heat. We size pipework to the actual flow rate, in 22mm or 28mm where needed.

Radiator outputs guessed

Bedroom rads sized off 'looks about right' instead of room heat-loss. Cold bedrooms in January are a sizing problem, not a boiler problem.

No zoning

One thermostat in the hallway controlling the whole house wastes meaningful energy. Modern installs are zoned by floor or by room as a default.

No balancing

Lock-shield valves left fully open, so the nearest rad takes all the flow and the furthest stays cold. Every install we do is balanced room-by-room with a digital flowmeter.

Mixed materials, hidden joints

Copper to plastic with no insert, hidden push-fit elbows behind tiles, plastic on the flow side of the boiler. We use the right material for each section and document where every joint is.

No system filter or scale reducer

Manufacturer benchmarking now requires both on a new install. Skip them and you've voided the 10-year warranty on day one.

Our process

Our central heating install process

From first survey to final handover, end-to-end accountability.

  1. 01

    Heat-loss Survey

Full room-by-room heat-loss calculation using building dimensions, glazing and insulation values. Determines boiler size, rad sizes and pipe sizes.

  2. 02

    System Design

Drawn out: zones, controls, rad layout, pipe routes. Choices explained: combi vs system, copper vs MLCP, 1 zone vs 2.

  3. 03

    Fixed Written Quote

Itemised quote covering boiler, rads, valves, controls, pipework, decoration touch-up and timing. Three options where useful.

  4. 04

    Install

Old system stripped, new pipework run (lifted boards relayed clean), rads hung, boiler mounted, controls wired, system filter and scale reducer fitted.

  5. 05

    Flush, Fill & Commission

Chemically flushed, filled with treated water and Sentinel X100 inhibitor, gas-rate set, flue gases analysed, controls programmed.

  6. 06

    Balance, Demonstrate & Hand Over

Every rad balanced individually. Customer walk-through of controls. Benchmark book, Gas Safe certificate and Building Notification logged.

Benefits

What a properly-designed system gives you

Lower running costs

Correctly sized, balanced and zoned systems run more efficiently than poorly-designed equivalents — meaningful savings every winter.

Warm rooms, evenly

Every rad sized to its room. No cold bedroom, no over-cooked living room.

Quieter operation

No banging pipes, no kettling, no air locks — because the system was bled, balanced and treated properly.

10-year warranty (Ideal, Baxi & Worcester)

Full extended manufacturer warranty registered on completion.

Sellable property

Gas Safe certificate, Building Notification, benchmark book, manufacturer registration — everything a buyer's solicitor will ask for.

One accountable installer

Same engineer surveys, installs, commissions and answers the phone for the next decade.

In detail

System types, materials and design choices

Every property is different. The right system depends on water demand, mains pressure, space, and how you actually live in the house.

Combi systems

Best for 1–3 bathroom homes with good mains pressure. No tank, no cylinder, instant hot water. Most efficient for typical Scunthorpe semis and terraces.

System boilers with unvented cylinder

Best for larger homes, multiple bathrooms running simultaneously, families. Mains-pressure hot water at every tap. We're G3 certified for unvented installs — full design detail on our unvented page.

Regular (heat-only) systems

Retained where the property has weak mains, a low-loss header or specialist requirements. Modern condensing regular boilers with insulated cylinders and good controls remain efficient.

Pipework — copper vs MLCP

Copper for visible runs and connections to fixed appliances — soldered or press-fit. MLCP (multi-layer plastic composite) for first-fix in floors and walls where flexibility and speed matter. Both fully BS-EN compliant when installed correctly.

Controls & zoning

Minimum spec: programmable room thermostat with weather/load compensation, TRVs on every rad except the room with the stat. Better: Hive Multizone or equivalent — two zones (upstairs/downstairs) cuts a typical bill by ~15%.

Radiators

Stelrad, Myson, Quinn Round Top — sized to the room heat-loss. Vertical and designer rads where space dictates. Towel rails on dual-fuel valves so they work in summer too.

Underfloor heating integration

Wet UFH on the ground floor with rads upstairs is the most comfortable layout we install. Manifold, blending valve and weather compensation integrated into the boiler controls — covered fully on our underfloor heating page.

Power flushing before install

If we're keeping any existing radiators, the system gets power-flushed before the new boiler goes on — protecting the 10-year warranty and removing sludge that would otherwise re-circulate.

Frequently asked

Straight answers,
in plain English.

Can't see your question? Ring Azim directly on 07576 593045.

How much does a full central heating install cost?

Highly variable by property. A 3-bed semi in Scunthorpe converting from storage heaters typically lands £7,500–£11,000 supplied and fitted. A larger 4–5 bed Hull property with two zones, an unvented cylinder and 12 radiators sits £11,000–£16,000. Every quote is fixed in writing.

How long does it take?

Typically 4–7 working days depending on size and access. We plan around when you'll be in the house and which rooms you can do without.

Will you make a mess?

We lift carpets and boards carefully and relay them clean. Floor protection down throughout, dust sheets over furniture, every off-cut and bit of packaging removed at the end of each day.

Do I get a warranty?

Yes — up to 10 years on the boiler (manufacturer, subject to product and registration), 5 years on the rads, and a 5-year workmanship warranty on the install itself from us, in writing.

Will you handle the Building Notification?

Yes — every install is notified to Gas Safe within 30 days; certificate posted to you. Required for sale of the property.

Can you do part of the system?

Yes — we'll quote phased installs (e.g. boiler + rads now, controls upgrade later) where budget makes sense. We'll always tell you what we'd prioritise.

Will you take old rads and pipework away?

All redundant materials removed, scrapped responsibly, and site swept on completion.

Do you cover Hull and Grimsby for full installs?

Yes — full central heating installs across Hull, Grimsby and Doncaster on the same fixed-price model as our North Lincs work.
